whitelist is a terrible solution

So I can get in by hardcoding the ip into my hosts file. This doesn't seem to work for everybody, but I just read an announcement post about adding an IP to the whitelist. I truly hope this is not a final solution to workaround the DDOS because if so, I would guess this will kill this server. Having to add a likely temporary IP to whitelist, only to potentially be added after 30 minutes is really a terrible solution, and one that the average player will not end up even seeing the post or information on how to do. Would guess population will be way, way down from where it was and would be surprised if this is the full "fix" for those of us who cannot get into one of the servers due to this issue if Octowow will survive or grow like it was growing previously, which is very sad as I really like this server and the work the devs had done to bring back the Turtlewow experience.

For real, I have been trying to connect for more than 2 weeks. Im not tech savvy and if i dont understand how to do vpns and things i guess im not playing anymore (if you ask help in the community they just call you retard for not knowing ´´´´´´basic things´´´´´´, Im sorry I have a life and i dont know how to, and i shouldnt even know how to). About the whitelist, where is it even? How does it even work? If i comment here can you see where im writing from and just whitelist me? For real, that doesnt sound like a very eficcent way.
I dont know if they deliverately sold the server and let it die but Im not doing all that to play something that should have been fixed weeks ago.
Farewell, Octowow.
EDIT 10 min laters: Now it lets me log in. Would have really been helpful 2 weeks ago but ok.

Good evening. Please help. I’m also constantly struggling with the connection; I might have different IP addresses, but I play from home using a static address—please add it. I can provide the address if needed.
