Hello,

I've downloaded a fresh install for octowow via torrent directly from octowow website and Malwarebytes flagged all these trojans...
Worst when I login there is a new "explorer.exe" that auto-runs, if I accept it to run it will open 20 processes of explorer.exe wich I suspect use my resources for crypto mining...
This is completly fckd up... Through all the ddos problems and everything and now this... :(

This has to be a mix of some other file being infected and spreading throughout your system instead of Octo.

Not sure how it would go if Octo's torrent link was hijacked, but a lot of this would've been flagged on many other PCs if it was Octo. Considering there's over 3000 concurrent players...

First off, when you turret something be sure to only use a trusted program for turreting. Turreting with no condom is asking to get your PC infected. Second, obviously use octowow at your own risk. Most people have confirmed octo-wow is only giving false positives. However, with any trojan or malware, that's like saying the mouse trap is not armed "yet". If you suspect octowow to be trying to infect your computer, just don't install it. If your not sure of something, don't do it

That's the golden rule of PC ownership.

I'm not really going to argue with you because in general that's a good stance to have. If you're unsure, just opt out. However, I felt some of the phrasing might be a bit misleading to some and wanted to chime in.

The false positives don't imply that there is any trojan or malware present. What the false positives pick up on is the ability to inject DLLs into an EXE file. While you could characterize that as the mouse trap not being armed "yet", I'd argue that since everything we're installing here is either outright open source or easily looked into on a deeper level, that there really isn't any possibility for there to be a Trojan or Malware present. The community would have been able to see that by now.

In general I agree with you, if you're unsure it's best not to risk things-- but at the same time, the community here is at least several thousand players strong at this point and that in and of itself provides you a bit of security. If there was an issue like this, the entire community would know very very quickly.
